One partition disappeared from My Computer
Without knowing the exact reason, one partition disappeared from My Computer. Since it is full of data, what actions can I take if I want to get it back?
This is a frequently asked question on the internet, but most askers haven’t found an effective solution. Aiming at this situation, we write this post to give several suggestions on partition recovery.
Suggestion 1: check whether the partition is really lost or not.
Generally, the partition which is without a drive letter will be invisible in My Computer, but at this time we can’t say the partition is lost, and it is just hidden. Therefore, users had better open Windows Disk Management tool to see whether the partition still exists on hard disk. If the partition is there but without a drive letter, allocating it with a letter will make it visible in My Computer again. However, if you are unable to find it but see an unallocated space, the partition has been lost. At this time, doing partition recovery is the best choice.
Tip: once realizing partition loss, stop doing any creating operation, and then perform partition recovery immediately. The sooner you take actions, the better effect you will get.
Suggestion 2: recover lost partition with partition recovery software.
Our partition may get lost due to different kinds of factors, like mistaken deletion, virus attack, and wrong partitioning, but disappointingly Windows does not provide a good solution. Therefore, a third party partition recovery software is needed. Here, we suggest using MiniTool Partition Wizard since it is a freeware for Windows non-server users and requires extremely simple operations.
Step 1: start and launch the free partition recovery software to get its main interface if it has been installed successfully.
Step 2: select the disk where partition loss appears, and then choose “Partition Recovery” function from the left side.
Step 3: choose a scanning range and then a scanning method to make scanning.
Step 4: check all needed partitions, including lost partitions and existing partitions, because unchecked partitions will be lost.
Step 5: select the recovered partition and appoint it with a drive letter. Then, click “Apply” button to perform changes if the preview effect is satisfied.
After MiniTool Partition Wizard applies all pending changes, the lost partition will be recovered, and then you can see it in My Computer. All data will be there as long as they are not overwritten by new data. Try this solution if one of your partitions also disappeared from My Computer.
