How can I delete recovery partition
If you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on laptop, you may surprisingly find in Disk Management that there is more than one partition marked as recovery, and some of them even take up dozens GB of space. “Do we really need all these recovery partitions”, you may ask such a question.
Recovery partition is a kind of partition set aside by the manufacturer to hold an image of our system as it was shipped from the factory so that we can make use of it to restore our computer to factory settings to fix some issues. Therefore, it is requisite. However, if you have a backup for your system, actually, there is no need to keep these partitions, and deleting them will release much disk space. Well, how can we delete recovery partition in Windows?
Windows Disk Management offers the Delete Volume function to delete most partitions with ease, but does not do well in removing a recovery partition since no such feature is found. Therefore, users need the help of third party partitioning programs, which provide much more partitioning operations. Here, we take MiniTool Partition Wizard for example:
This is the main interface of the program, where all disks and partitions are shown in detail. After selecting a disk, we can see lots of disk management operations, like Delete All Partitions, Partition Recovery, and Wipe Disk. However, if we select a partition instead, all performable partitioning functions will emerge, including Delete Partition, Format Partition, Align Partition, Move/Resize Partition, Split Partition, and so on.
To remove a recovery partition, please select the very partition and choose “Delete Partition” function from the left side, and then it will become unallocated:
At this time, as long as we click “Apply” button, the deleting operation will start automatically. Once MiniTool Partition Wizard says it applied changes successfully, you can create new partitions in the unallocated space which is released by recovery partition, or extend other partitions to the unallocated space.
Are you unable to remove a recovery partition in Windows Disk Management? If yes, choose MiniTool Partition Wizard as an alternative. And steps have been shown in this post.
