D drive is missing from my computer
Your D drive (we also call it partition D) may be missing from your computer without knowing the exact reason, like this:
I used my computer this morning and everything was fine. But now I can’t see my D drive, which means it is missing from my computer. And now all of my files are gone. How can I get the missing drive back?
Well then, is the drive really lost under this situation? Users can perform the following operations to check: right click “Computer” icon on the desktop, choose “Manage”, and click “Disk Management”. Afterwards, Windows built-in Disk Management tool will show users detailed information about disks and partitions:
If you find a partition which is without a drive letter but seems much like the one you lost, please right click the partition and choose “Change Drive Letter and Paths” to appoint it with the letter which belongs to the lost drive, and then open My Computer or Windows Explore to see whether the drive comes back. If it is the very lost drive, we can say the drive just misses its drive letter but does not disappear. However, if it is not the drive you are looking for, the original partition has been lost.
In addition, if you cannot find an identical drive but an unallocated space in Disk Management utility,
this also shows D drive has been really lost. At this time, doing partition recovery is undoubtedly the best choice, and there is free partition recovery software to help do this if you are running Windows non-server operating systems. It is MiniTool Partition Wizard. For server support, please see Server Partition Manager to get details.
Tip: once realizing partition loss, users had better not recreate new partition in the released unallocated space. If not, the missing drive may be unrecoverable.
Recover the Missing D Drive with MiniTool Partition Wizard
After launching the free partition recovery software successfully users will see the following interface:
Here all recognized disks will be shown. Please select the one where partition loss appears, and then choose “Partition Recovery” to continue.
Then, choose a scanning range as well as a scanning method successively. After these settings, Partition Wizard will scan the specified range via the selected scanning method automatically. After scan, all found partitions will be shown:
Now please check all needed partitions (both existing and lost) and click “Finish” to go back to the main interface:
Then we can see the recovered partition appears but it is without a drive letter. At this time, we need to select the partition and click “Change Drive Letter” from the left action pane to appoint the partition with its original letter namely D.
At last, click “Apply” button to make all changes performed, and then the drive D is recovered.
Is your drive D also missing from your computer? Now use the free partition recovery software MiniTool Partition Wizard to get it back.
