Migrate system disk to SSD
Many users plan to run Windows OS on a solid state drive (SSD) without reinstallation so that they are looking for a way to migrate the current system disk to SSD. Aiming at this situation, we give some suggestions.
Firstly, visit your manufacturer’s website to see whether they provide a disk migration software. As far as we know, only Samsung offers such a tool, which is called Samsung Data Migration. If you are going to migrate system disk to Samsung SSD, download this tool to have a try. However, during using this program, you may encounter some problems, for example, the migration process freezes suddenly (similar problems are commonly seen in technical forums). Under this situation, trying third party programs is a good choice.
However, if your manufacturer does not provide such a tool, definitely choose third party disk migration software. If you do not have a good idea of such a kind of program, try using MiniTool Partition Wizard, which is free for all Windows non-server users. It offers 3 choices to do the migration: migrate a partition to SSD, transfer Windows OS only to SSD, and clone the entire hard disk to SSD. Users just need to choose the needed one in accordance with actual demands. Next, we take transferring system disk to SSD for example to show more details of this program.
Migrate System Disk to SSD with MiniTool Partition Wizard
After the disk migration software is downloaded and installed successfully, we only need to start and launch it to get the main window shown below:
Now we can see there are lots of functions displayed on the left side. To transfer system disk to SSD, we need to select the system disk and choose “Copy Disk” function.
Then, select the SSD and click “Next”. After that, we are able to choose an appropriate copying method for the SSD.
Here are 3 options available, and we highly suggest choosing the third one if you are planning to edit partition to desired size or location. Then, click “Next” to get a boot note. Read the note carefully and click “Finish” to go back to the main interface.
Now we can see the system disk has been transferred to SSD with reserving the source one, but partitions on SSD are without drive letter. At this time, please appoint each partition with a letter and click “Apply” button to make all changes performed.
Tip: when the system disk saves Windows OS which is loaded, users will be asked to restart computer. Just do as MiniTool Partition Wizard prompts, because this is to protect your system.
Are you going to migrate system disk or Windows OS to SSD? Just try using this disk migration software.
