Little free space in partition C
Have you ever encountered the situation where there is little free space left in partition C? What operations did you performed to deal with this issue? There are always 3 solutions, including:
- Delete useless files from C drive to free up space.
- Extend Partition C.
- Purchase a new disk and then reinstall Windows on new disk or transfer Windows to the new disk.
Among these 3 solutions, the second one is highly recommended if there is much unused space left on the old disk, while the third one is worth trying when the entire hard disk does not have much free space. Next, let’s see details.
The Second Way: Extend Partition C
Many users are suggested to do the operation in Windows Disk Management, but most of the time they failed since the Extend Volume feature is grayed out. If you want to know why they can’t extend C drive in Disk Management, please see Why Is Extend Volume Grayed out and How to Solve It to get details. Under this situation, you’d better make use of MiniTool Partition Wizard, which does much better in extending partition. And detailed steps are as follows:
1.Start the program to get its main interface:
2.Select C drive and choose “Extend Partition” function from the left action panel.
3.Select an existing partition or unallocated space to take free space to enlarge partition C, and drag sliding button to decide how much space to take. Here, we take space from unallocated space to enlarge C. Tip: MiniTool Partition Wizard does not distinguish free space from unallocated space so that it is able to extend a partition to either unallocated space or free space.
4.Click “Apply”, “Yes” and “Restart Now” to apply all changes in boot mode.
Now, partition C is extended, and it’s time to introduce the third solution.
The Third Way: Reinstall Windows on New Disk or Transfer Windows to New Disk
For fresh installation, please prepare a Windows installation disc, which could be CD/DVD or USB flash drive, then set CD-Driver or Removable device as the first boot device (for Legacy BIOS), next boot computer via the installation disc, and install Windows to the new disk by following instructions. During this process, you are able to specify space for the new boot or system partition. Tip: if you failed to activate the newly installed system, try delete the one installed on old disk via deleting the partition by using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
Well, what if you want to reinstall Windows without having an installation disk? At this time, the best way is to transfer Windows from old disk to new disk. During this process, you can also edit partition size. For detailed steps, please see Migrate OS to SSD/HD.
Does your C drive have little free space left? Now, take one of ways introduced here to fix the issue.
