Extend C drive to non-adjacent space
After running a Windows computer for a long time, users may find little free space is left in C drive. At this time, users who have a basic understanding of disk partitioning would want to enlarge the drive to get more free space. They are always planning to do like this: shrink the partition which is neighboring to C drive via the function “Shrink Volume” to create an unallocated space, and then enlarge C drive to the unallocated space. But unfortunately, shrinking a partition can only make the unallocated space located on the right side, which means the unallocated space cannot be neighboring to C drive while the “Extend Volume” feature is unable to extend C drive to non-adjacent unallocated space. Well then, how can users resize partition under this situation? Next, we will give users a good solution.
Extend C Drive to Non-adjacent Space by Using Free Partitioning Software
Since Windows Disk Management and Diskpart have a lot of limitations in managing partitions and disks, third-party partitioning program emerges as time requires. Excellent partitioning software is capable of enlarging a partition by taking free space from any other existing partition or unallocated space on the same disk (no matter whether they are adjacent or not) without bringing any damage to data. Here, the freeware MiniTool Partition Wizard is worth trying since it provides perfect solutions to resizing partitions, including extend partition and shrink partition.
Extend C Drive to Non-adjacent Space with MiniTool Partition Wizard
Like using other software, users need to download and install the program to computer. Then, start and launch it to get the main interface shown below:
Then, select the C drive and choose “Extend Partition” feature from the left action pane to get the following window:
Next, drop down the menu of “Take Free Space from” and select the unallocated space . Afterwards, drag the sliding handle to decide how much free space you to take and click “OK” to confirm operations.
Now we can see C drive has been enlarged to the non-contiguous unallocated space, so please click “Apply” button to make all changes performed.
Tip: since C drive installs Windows which is running now, users will be asked to restart the computer after they click the “Apply” button. Please do as it requires, because this is to protect your system.
