Boot a remote server using the remote agent boot disks
- To boot a remote server using the remote agent boot disks
1. Make sure you have first created the RA boot disks using the Boot Disk Builder program (PQBDB32.EXE).
2. Insert the RA boot disk into the floppy drive of the remote server and boot the server.
The Remote Agent dialog box appears. Notice that it is waiting for a connection from ServerMagic on the Windows NT/2000 server.
The first time you run RA on the remote server, you may need to specify the correct network configuration settings. If so, complete the remaining steps.
3. From the Remote Agent dialog box, click Settings.
4. Click Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server if a DHCP server is used, then go to step 6.
Or, click Specify an IP address, then continue with step 5.
5. Enter a static local address, net mask, and default gateway.
6. Click Save.
The information you specify in the Local Settings dialog box is saved in the WATTCP.CFG file on the boot disk.
Notice that the RA is now ready and waiting for a connection from ServerMagic on a Windows NT/2000 server. After a connection is established, you can send operations (such as copying a partition) from the Windows NT/2000 server to the remote server. Click See Also on the Help toolbar, then click To connect to a remote agent for steps on establishing a connection with the remote server.
Tip
In step 1, if you have not yet created the disks, click Tools Boot Disk Builder, then refer to the Boot Disk Builder online Help file for further instructions on creating the RA boot disks. (You can also start Boot Disk Builder from the Windows Start menu. Click Start Programs PowerQuest ServerMagic 4.0 Boot Disk Builder.)
